Metallica to rock opening day baseball game
Metallica to rock opening day baseball game

Metallica is set to give the national anthem a heavy metal makeover when they kick off the first home game of the season for a Californian baseball team later this year.

The band will take over the AT&T Park stadium in San Francisco on May 3 when the Giants take on their rivals the Dodgers.

The rockers will play America’s national song The Star-Spangled Banner and one member of the legendary group will throw the first pitch.

Special tickets for the game will be sold with a limited edition Metallica/Giants hat, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Bill Graham Foundation, which gives grants to music, the arts, and education.

A statement posted on the band’s official website reads, “We’re psyched to be teaming up with the World Series champs (sic) for the first ever Metallica Night at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Friday, May 3. When the Giants take on their arch-rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers, we’ll be on hand that night to kick off the game with the national anthem and first pitch, joining the orange and black fanatics with Metallica vibes and shenanigans throughout the evening to cheer on the team for the first home Dodger game of the season.”

The band previously appeared at the Giants’ game against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game Six of the National League Championship Series at AT&T Park last year
